Gente de Zona (also stylized as Gente D' Zona) was formed in Havana (Cuba) in 2000 by Alexander Delgado and Michel "El Caro" Delgado. The group’s been through many line up changes since then and it currently consists of Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom Martinez. While their musical style can be broadly classified as reggaetón (a form of dance music of Puerto Rican origin, characterized by a fusion of Latin rhythms, dancehall, and hip hop), it also includes elements of more traditional genres such as merengue (a style of music and dance that emerged in the Dominican Republic early in the 20th century and is characterized by its 2/4-time and complex 2-step dance, along with instruments such as acoustic guitar, marimbula, accordion, tambora, guira, bass, piano and even saxophone), son (a genre of music and dance that originated in the highlands of eastern Cuba during the late 19th century), and mambo. They’ve had a stellar career with 3 studio albums, 1 compilation album, 8 singles, and they’ve collaborated with many renowned artists such as Pitbull, Marc Anthony, Los Del Río, Enrique Iglesias, and Sean Paul. They’ve received many accolades including a Latin Grammy Award (for Best Tropical Fusion Album), a Latin American Music Award (Favorite Album – Tropical), and a Premios Juventud Award.
