Sensational funk artists George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic are bringing their signature sounds to the Marquee Theater!
George Clinton was born in Kannapolis (North Carolina) in 1941 and is a singer, songwriter, and record producer. He’s the leader of Parliament Funkadelic; a group that’s renowned for top notch musicianship, politically charged lyrics, Afrofuturism (a literary and cultural aesthetic that combines elements of science fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, Afrocentrism, and magic realism with non-Western cosmologies), outlandish concept albums, and memorable live performances. Their musical style is so unique it’s been dubbed P-Funk and can be best described as a blend of funk, psychedelic soul aka black rock (a subgenre of soul music, which mixes the characteristics of soul with psychedelia), funk rock (a fusion genre that mixes elements of funk and rock), psychedelic funk (a subgenre of funk that uses techniques from psychedelic rock - wah pedals, fuzz boxes, echo chambers, and vocal distorters - as well as blues rock and jazz music), and disco. In May 1997, George Clinton and 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They’re widely regarded as one of the most important figures in funk music (along with James Brown and Sly Stone) and they influenced many post-disco and post-punk music groups of the 1980s and 1990s.
