Minus The Bear, Washington’s sensational alternative rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Marquee Theater!
Minus The Bear was formed in Seattle in 2001 by Matt Bayles, Erin Tate, Cory Murchy, Dave Knudson, and Jake Snider. The band is named after an inside joke amongst the members. Jake said in an interview, “A friend of the band had gone on a date and one of us asked him afterwards how the date went. Our friend said, 'You know that TV show from the '70s, B.J. and the Bear? It was like that... minus the Bear.' That’s the straight truth.” While their musical style can be broadly classified as alternative rock, it’s best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegazing) and math rock (a subgenre of indie rock characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures, counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords). They’ve had a stellar career with 6 studio albums (3 of which are top 10 hits on Billboard’s Independent albums chart), 11 extended plays, 1 remix album, and 8 music videos.
