UB40, England’s sensational pop and reggae artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Marquee Theater!
The band was formed in Birmingham (England) in 1978 and consists of Jimmy Brown (drums), Robin Campbell (guitar and vocals), Earl Falconer (bass guitar), Norman Hassan (percussion, trombone, and vocals), Brian Travers (saxophone), and Duncan Campbell (vocals). When on tour, the line up also includes Laurence Parry (trumpet, flugelhorn, and trombone), Martin Meredith (saxophone and keyboards), and Tony Mullings (keyboards). Their musical style is best described as a blend of reggae (while sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term reggae more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady), pop, and dub (a style that grew out of reggae in the 1960s and consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings that are created by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, and emphasizing the drum and bass parts). They’ve had a stellar career with 18 studio albums, 4 live albums, 14 compilation albums, 62 singles, and they’ve sold over 70 million records worldwide. They’ve been nominated for a Brit Award (for Best British Group) and 4 Grammy Awards (Best Reggae Album).
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to pop, dub, and reggae music!
